The popularity of girls football worldwide is at an all time high with Wales proving no exception. 4,000 registered female players are participating within the eight junior and five senior league structures making it the largest participation sport for girls in the country.
Girls football is encouraged and endorsed by FIFA and UEFA and the success of the programme in Wales can be contributed to the ongoing support of the FAW, Area Associations, Junior Leagues and all other key partners.

National Girls Working Group
The National Working Group for Girls Football was established last year to contribute to the strategic development of the female game in Wales. It comprises of representatives from the FAW, Area Associations, Welsh Football Trust and Welsh Schools FA, and is chaired by FAW Senior Vice President and member of the UEFA Women’s Football Committee, Mr. Philip Pritchard.
The Group is the driving force behind the proposed new National League for Women which will provide a pathway in Wales for ambitious clubs, raise standards in the feeder leagues through increased competition for promotion and give talented players a target to strive for. The Women’s Welsh Premier League has commenced since the season 2009-2010 and has now developed into a ten team league since the inaugural launch which involved eight teams.
