FAW - Introduction to Futsal
Futsal is a good opportunity for coaches to utilse another training tool to support the development of their young players. There is evidence to support the benefits of Futsal for technical and skill development of players working alongside their football development. Futsal is a small sided game with teams of 5 players and squads of 10 - 12 meaning players get greater number of opportunities to be in posession of the ball and make decisions. At the youngest age groups, with the introduction of 4 v 4 and 5 v 5 Mini Football at U7 and U8 age groups, there is a direct relationship between Mini Football and Futsal.
Futsal will help increase players technical proficiency on the ball, vision and awareness, game understanding and decision making under pressure. It will also support motor development of fundamental movement patterns, (ABC’s) as players are constantly moving and changing direction in a small playing area.
Coach education will be a crucial part in the development of Futsal in Wales and this course is an ideal opportunity for grass roots coaches to get an understanding of Futsal so that it can be integrated into the training programs of players to enhance their development. A number of courses will be available throughout Wales so to find out about up and coming courses contact
