The FAW Skills Award is a coaching and assessment programme for all young players learning the basic skills and techniques of football.
Through the points system utilised in the programme, the FAW Skills Award provides a fun and challenging environment for players to develop their skill and provides reward for improvement.
All practices, which are part of the FAW Skills Award, have been designed to link into the key stages of the National Curriculum.
How does the FAW Skills Award work?
The FAW Skills Award has three distinct levels, with skills and techniques becoming technically harder as players progress through the levels.
The three levels cover the following skills:
Level 1
Control, Passing and Running with the Ball.
Level 2
Heading, Control, Passing, Running with the Ball, Dribbling and Shooting.
Level 3
Heading, Control, Passing, Running with the Ball, Dribbling and Shooting.
The practices form a learning programme at every level, which have been developed specifically to test the skills outlined above. A scoring system is outlined for individual practice with a total of 40 points available at each of the three levels.
How are players skill levels assessed?
Players record their individual score for each practice on their score sheets provided with the activity cards. By adding all their individual scores together at each level they get their point’s total which dictates which skill level they achieve - Bronze, Silver or Gold.
