Futsal is a Fun, enjoyable and exciting game. Whilst it can be a sport in its own right, Futsal does not compete with football but serves to support it. Futsal is widely considered a valuable tool in the development of young players to assist them in becoming more technically proficient. Whilst the game is heavily endorsed by Brazilian and South American players who have grown up playing Futsal, the game has spread to all parts of Europe.
The game supports players to develop agility, balance coordination and speed (ABC’s). It also supports players to become more comfortable with the ball and multiply opportunities to practice passing, dribbling, turning, shooting and ball control whilst under pressure.
Most notably Futsal encourages players to make quick decisions whilst under pressure and in tight spaces and have better spatial awareness. The skills and techniques are directly transferable to the 11 a side game whilst also incorporating the principles of attack and defence.
In additition Futsal is primarily an Indoor sport which means that young players can continue their development during the winter months when outdoor surfaces are not available due to poor weather conditions. This combined makes Futsal a fantastic development tool for players aged 5 – 16. It is also a great opportunity for players 16 plus to play a recognised form of 5 a side with a pathway to play in recreational, regional, national and European competitions in the future.
