Girls Football received a boost in Ceredigion recently with over 400 Ceredigion girls taking part in FIFA sponsored ‘Live Your Goals’ festivals.
Festivals were held in Cardigan, Lampeter & Aberystwyth and girls were given the opportunity to learn new skills, take part in small sided games and meet new players in a relaxed carnival atmosphere.
The events were organised by the Active Young People team of Ceredigion Actif in partnership with the FAW Trust. All girls attending received a certificate of attendance as well as a ‘Live Your Goals’ t-shirt. The aim was to encourage more girls to take up football at grassroots level.
Ceredigion’s Active Young People Manager, Alwyn Davies said, ‘These festivals provided a taster of what is available to girls around the county. The aim is to show them how enjoyable football can be and to lead them to the clubs and leisure centres where weekly sessions are being delivered.’
Debbie Wise, Welsh Football Trust Inclusion Officer said: "It was fantastic to see so many girls enjoy themselves - dance, music and football is a great mix! We hope that they have been inspired to play the game on a regular basis. Go on girls - make your way to your local club or turn up and play session - Live your goals and ultimately the dream!"
As part of the partnership between the FAW Trust and Ceredigion Actif, there are Girls Only ‘Turn Up & Play’ sessions held weekly at Aberaeron, Lampeter and Tregaron Leisure Centres.
