Wrexham & District Under 8's World Cup

To celebrate the closing of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Wrexham and District Under 8's were involved within their very own World Cup Event at Clywedog Sports Centre on Sunday July 4th.

Over 140 boys and girls were present upon the day and were involved within 4-Hours of Fun Festival Mini-Football. Mini Football is a modified version of 11-a-side game giving children the chance to play real football, for a real team, whilst experiencing an enjoyable and fun introduction to the game.

Mini football is recognised by the FAW as the only form of football in Wales for children under 11 years old. The key values of Mini Football all of which were present during the Wrexham Festival are as follows:

· Boys and girls of all abilities are able to participate
· The game is easy to organize and can be played anywhere at anytime
· Players can take an active part in the game and have some fun without pressure from parents or coaches,
· It encourages teamwork, and develops childrens' skills

After a successful event and the thriving nature of Mini-Football in Wrexham all players and parents were able to leave with a smile on their faces, with medals and certificates for all involved and each club was presented with its very own Wrexham Under 8 World Cup for participating in the festival.

Mark Roberts Football Development Officer for Wrexham said,

"The event was a huge success and to have nearly 150 boys and girls involved within the new format of Mini-Football was extremely pleasing and today has really shown the positive strides being made in relation to Mini-Football across Wales."

Jonathan Buchanan, Kinnerton Oaks Club Secretary added,

"The tournament was extremely well run and organised. All the boys and girls involved were really pleased with format, the medals and
particularly the trophies. A very positive day for all involved."
