Equality Standard - a Framework in Sport
18 Jul 2010The Welsh Football Trust has recently been recognised by Sport Wales as being an organisation that has achieved the 'Equality Standard - A Framework in Sport' status.
Regional Development Co-ordinator Gus Williams said,
"The first ever equality Standard for sport was launched in November 2004. It is a framework for assisting sports organisations to widen access and reduce inequalities in sport and physical activity from under-representative individuals, groups and communities, especially women and girls, ethnic minority groups and disabled people. It is based around two broad themes: developing your organisation and developing your services."
"As a forward-moving organisation in the world of football we must acknowledge that the 'Football Family' is one that encompasses the ethos of the game being 'accessible to the many not only the few'. With this in mind, the drive to ensure that we supported this belief commenced by submitting an application, strengthened by documentation highlighting examples of the work we do and how the 'Football Family' in Wales has grown."
"The 'Football Family' tree in Wales has its roots firmly embedded within all manner of the work that the Trust delivers and achieving this recognition from Sport Wales can only signify that the Trust has delivered what the Football masses of Wales wanted - an organisation that truly reflects that the game can reach 'not only the few but the many."
"Rather than rest on its laurels the Trust will be implementating its 4-year strategy in September with continued developments evolving throughout that period. The status is deserved recognition for the past and will only be reflected further within the future."
